Many years ago, dragons were kept as protectors of the ancient kingdom of Myrrados. They were brought forth by the Old Gods, who trusted them to serve as beacons of magic—gifts that allowed mortals to wield power beyond their nature.As time passed, however, the last heir of Myrrados fell under the corruption of an older entity, one who ruled over the subconscious mind and fed upon the dreams of children. The prince turned against humanity, commanding his armies to pillage and destroy in the name of Somnavor.The Old Gods saw this and acted swiftly, destroying all of the dragons. All, but one.One dragon was sealed within an enchanted mirror, kept alive for the sole purpose of serving as the locked door—guarding the dream realm, Lumineth, and confining it to the unconscious mind.And finally, after thousands of years, a lone adventurer found the mirror.

Magic goes haywire because a dragon (previously thought extinct, you're the last one) was freed from a mirror. The veil between the dream realm and reality shattered, making nightmarish entities pour into reality to pillage and burn.

The main campaign is optional and there are various other characters to be played. The main campaign follows a linear story and offers little leniency for major aspects to be changed.

The magical system in Veyora is broken up into four categories. Every magical being, or being that can use magic must adhere to the system below.

Schools of Magic

Every class can tie it's magic-type back to the five main schools of magic. They are: Elementalism, mysticism, vitalism, umbramancy, and dominion.

ELEMENTALISM is the control over nature's raw forces, like water and fire. It is most common to see elemental-based magical beings controlling one or two elements, while having control over all four main elements is rare, but possible.

MYSTICISM connects a being to the pure, raw power within Veyora itself. Classes that connect back to mysticism revolves around arcana, divination, and illusion.

VITALISM is the control over life, itself. Many vitalist classes revolve around healing and minor defense, while some vitalist classes have evolved to include the decay of life as well.

UMBRAMANCY revolves around the void and shadow magic. Much of it is considered forbidden, as it requires contracts with devils, but there are very few that aren't shunned by society.

DOMINION magic is the power over other things and beings. Some dominion-types, like the kind that takes control over other beings without their express permission, is forbidden.

Casting

All magic has different subgroups, like how it's cast. You can find them below:

VOCALIZATION is the most common type of cast. Vocal casters must use spoken words, chants, and songs to tap into their magic.

GESTURE casters must use seals, dance, and martial movement to tap into their magic. This is most commonly seen within combat and rituals.

The usage of CONDUITS to tap into magic is normally done by beings who cannot naturally use magic. Conduits can be any enchanted object, from weapons to runes and tattoos.

INNATE power comes from a being's natural reservoir and doesn't require any gestures, vocalizations, nor conduits. It is the strongest and most rare form of magic casting.

Magical Limitations

Every being who can use magic has their own limitation, whether it be natural or burn-out.

AETHER BURN is the overuse of one's magic, when they've used up their natural reservoir and have begun to tap into their very soul. Symptoms include, but are not limited to: Fatigue, pain, and madness.

RESONANCE CLASH occurs when two opposing elements are at odds (like water and fire). They will come to a stalemate most of the time unless one is more experienced and/or stronger than the other.

ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCE is the theory that some magic is stronger when within their natural element because a being doesn't have to use their natural reservoir as much (a water elementalist in a river). Likewise, their natural reservoir will dry up faster if they are in an incompatible setting, like a water elementalist in the heart of Calethis.

Some magic users require complete FOCUS to channel their magic. This can also be true for some spells that require more time to complete. Any damage taken/any distractions can cancel out these spells.

Power Scaling

Each spell falls into a specific category.

CANTRIPS are the most common, being small tricks that do minimal damage.

SPELLS are combat-level abilities that can do more damage based on the caster's experience, strength, and health.

ARTS are personalized signature abilities. They can do minimal or maximum damage depending on the caster.

RITES are large-scale, draining abilities that require more than one person to complete.

MYTHICS are legendary, reality-bending abilities that have only been seen in stories of the Old Gods. Any rite that requires only one being to complete is a mythic.

common specializations

There are millions of specific specializations, but the following are the most common.

Elementalists most commonly have control over fire, water, air, or earth, and are categorized as such. Very few, instead, may control subelements, such as ice, lightning, and magma.It's much more rare than sub-elements, but there are also elementalists who can control all four elements. They are referred to as shamans and are held at the utmost respect in most societies.

Mystics most commonly separate between arcanists, illusionists, and divinationists.They are usually turned to when something needs to be enchanted or for help replenishing the natural magical reservoir within a being.Some mystics can also replicate a raw, natural element with the arcane, but doing so is considered extremely difficult and expensive.

Vitalists are split between the elements of life, decay, and spirit. They are mostly seen as healers with minor defenses, but some—those who dabble in decay and spiritualism—are able to deal major damage.Decay Vitalism is considered a forbidden magic because of how destructive it can and has proven to be. It is also the most expensive type of Vitalism, requiring twice the amount of raw energy that the others do.

There are three legal types of umbramancers—shadow, void, and curse. They are touched by darkness and are granted power based on how much they can handle. It isn't uncommon for beings to be overcome with this power and ultimately taken over.Every other type of umbramancy is considered forbidden because a pact with a devil is required. Devil work is the most dangerous thing a caster can do.

Beings who specialize in dominion magic normally do so through summoning, command, or song. Dominion magic when it comes controlling sentient beings is illegal, but they are allowed to control animals and those who've given permission.Most casters who have been arrested for using illegal magic were because of dominion-based magic.

They were formed millions upon millions of years ago after the elves chased orcs out of the forest over political differences over the protection of the environment. With the orcs, the thrynn and noxiri accompanied, believing the elves to be wrong for displacing orcs from their home.From then, the two factions have been at odds with the only true neutral group within Veyora being the Tavriel on the coast of Calethis.

FACTION	Verdan
APPEARANCE	Plant-like entities. They have glowing eyes and typically come in shades of green, brown, and grey. Their appearance varies by plant, with some resembling vines and others, branches.
NOTES	Were once part of Aegis, but realigned with Verdan along with the thrynn when the elves forced the orcs out of Sylvara. They still stay in Sylvara in their own enclaves.

APPEARANCE	Said to be descent from the last dragonkin, Ilvari are humanoid, elven beings with large, long horns and scaled tails. They have patterned scales on their arms, legs, and face, and come in all sorts of colors.
NOTES	Rumored to hate the last dragon that was found in the mirror.

FACTION	Verdan
APPEARANCE	Elythrae are beings born from volcanic activity. They are made up of obsidian and charcoal, and have never-dying flames engulfing their clothing and bodies.
NOTES	Founded Verdan when they took the orcs under their protection in Norrvain.

THRYVANI


FACTION	Aegis
APPEARANCE	Thryvani are aquatic humanoids who thrive in the ocean off of the coast of Sylvara. They have webbed fingers and toes and are often referred to as cousins of the elves.
NOTES	More neutral between the two factions, but are most recognized as part of Aegis due to their closeness with the elves.

FACTION	Verdan
APPEARANCE	Rhaari are desert stalkers with the ears and tail of a caracal cat. Other traits, like fur and claws, are also common within them.
NOTES	They live in small, close-knit clans without leadership. Joined Verdan begrudgingly when they were given shelter in Calethis during a sandstorm.

APPEARANCE	Luphren are humanoids with wolf-like features (ears, tail, teeth) who thrive in cold weather. They are tall, muscular, and extremely strong.

Humans are the most adaptable and widespread of the mortal races, marked by their quick recovery and need for change. They are not often bound by strict ancestral or spiritual ties, and are quick to establish new traditions and beliefs when situations call for it.Though they don't live as long as their neighbors, humans tend to remain influential for many years to come after their death. Outsiders often see them as restless and ambitiously prone to conflict, but humans feel as though their drive is proof of their spirit and willpower. They take pride in perseverance, discovery, and influence.

Humans are extremely diverse in terms of appearance. Their height ranges between five and six feet, though taller and shorter individuals is not uncommon. Skin tones range between ivory and deep brown, eye colors appear mostly in shades of green, brown, hazel, or blue, while rarer shades like grey and amber are stigmatized in their own right.Hair textures can range from straight to coiled with colors including black, brown, blonde, and red. Some cultures practice elaborate dyes, braids, and shavings of their hair for symbolic and expressionist purposes.Humans wear clothing based on religion and trade. Jewelry, charms, and other adornments are common and serve as status markers or tokens of memory.

The Valmyric come from the beautiful plains of Terenos, with gorgeous river-cities that serve as centers for trade and politics. They are skilled farmers, scribes, and builders. Valmyric clothing uses deep blues and ochres, marking themselves with sigils of family lineages.Drakensworn

Aasimar are mortals touched by the Gods, and their spirits are infused with fragments of celestial essence as a resort. Some become revered spiritual leaders while others wander the land as prophets and healers.

Aasimar resemble humans with celestial traits. They have raidant skin tones, from bronze and deep gold to silver. Their eyes glow in shades of white, gold, violet, sapphire, or without a visible pupil.Their hair can range from mortal hues like black or auburn to ethereal hades like silver and blue. Some Aasimar bear faint halos, feathered wings, shimmering freckles, glowing veins, or feathered patterns on their skin. The Zerathi are dryadic, plantlike beings whose forms take on semblance to the beauty of flora, with the structure of crystal and living wood. They embody the balance of growth and decay with societies that are deeply tied to the cycle of life and the wilds of the world.Zerathi are collective in nature, and see themselves as extensions of the land around them. They are regarded as outsiders and are seen as strange by other races. To the Zerathi, time is crucial and limited, with every new death being seen as a seed for new life.They value memory, ritual, and symbiosis, and kinship is not defined by blood.

Zerathi resemble tall, slender humanoids with natural and crystalline elements to their appearance. Their skin resembles nature, depicted through their green and brown skin tones, branch-like antlers, blooming flowers, and luminous eyes of gold, green, or silver. They don't have pupils, giving them a dreamlike and haunting look.When threatened, their bodies harden into bark-like armor or jagged crystal, and some Zerathi can sprout blossoms, fungal growths, and thorns as a defense mechanism.

The Syltheri are the main lineage of Zerathi who reside deep in the swamps alongside the Aasimar. They live in semi-submerged sanctuaries grown from massive roots and fungal towers, and are extremely secretive. Despite their allegiance to Aegis, the Syltheri are extremely wary and distrustful of the elves, and have been since the elves ran off the orcs.

Orcs

Orcs are a proud, war-forged group of individuals shaped by millennia of survival against the world. They live in clan-based societies and value kin and war-banded identities more than anything else.Each clan carries its own traditions, battle rites, and spiritual beliefs, with many honoring their ancestors through song, tattoo, and scarification. Orcs maintain and create deep oral histories, artistry through weapon crafting, and a fiercely deep respect for the natural world.Many outsiders view the orcs as brutish and violent because of their aggressive nature, but to orcs, their combat is simply their form of expression. It is a way to test one's spirit, prove their honor, and carve a place in history. In combat, they value discipline, meaning, and survival.

Orcs have tall, muscular, and imposing figures with most ranging between 6'1" and 7'8" once fully grown. Their skin color tends to range between deep obsidian, earthy browns, and shades of green. Desaturated shades of red and purple are also common.Their facial features are strong and angular, with prominent brows, cheekbones, and sharp jawlines. Some may have tusks or elongated, more prominent canines, but this is not true for all of them. Their eyes tend to be bright shades of orange, red, green, or blue.Their hair most commonly has a thick texture and comes in darker colors. Some hair colors, like silver, are seen as holy and are often associated with mystics and shamans. Craftsmen create hair-safe dyes from mineral and plant powders, and people use them for ritualistic and symbolic expression.Craftsmen make clothing and armor with leather and line them with different metals and furs. Bones and dark, smooth, and glossy stones may decorate some symbolic pieces of clothing.

The Vorynthali originated in the deep, luscious jungles of Sylvara until they were driven out after an unresolved conflict with the Ilythari elves. They currently reside in the deserts of Calethis and are most commonly shades of green and teal due to their origin. They pride themselves on honor and their connection to the planet, while also harboring an extreme hatred for elves for their eviction from Sylvara.Kharvashûn
The Kharvashûn originate from the deserts of Calethis and they are most commonly darker shades of red, orange, and with some appearing more brown or dark grey than others. They are swift-mounted skirmishers and utilize ambush and hit-and-run tactics. They save honorable fights to duels between their kin and value survival and strategy when on the battlefield.

Once known as the serene cousins to elves, Thrynn are coined by their pacifistic and calming nature. They live in a classless society, often operating by herd rules. They value harmony over hierarchy, with many major decisions being made communally.Thrynn once lived in close-knit woodland enclaves within Sylvara, but now reside in the plainlands of Terenos after joining the Vorynthali in their exile from Sylvara.Conflict within Thrynn is rare, as disagreements are settled through long discussion, ritual song, or by consulting the natural world itself, and conflict with other races was even rarer until the Vorynthali were run out of their homes. To many Thrynn societies, the only act worse than removing autonomy from a given entity is usurpation. Once one Thrynn society recognizes someone as a threat, the others will follow suit.Thrynn are deeply spiritual and hold the belief that every creature, stone, and stream carries a spark of memory from the Old Gods. Outsiders consider Thrynn to be foolish and naive, but their resilience lies in their unity. They are also considered fierce protectors, and have often been known to abandon their pacifism for the sake of protecting another.

Thrynn are tall, graceful beings with a cervine, or deer-like, appearence. They typically stand between six and eight feet tall, and they walk on cloven hooves. It is uncommon for Thrynn to have furry legs, but not rare.From the sides of their heads, antlers protrude through their hair, with some branching like trees and others sweeping back elegantly, often adorned with beads, moss, and woven charms.Their features are a blend of elven and fey-animal grace, with broad, gentle faces and hair that ranges from natural colors like brown, black, and auburn, to unnatural colors, like green and purple. Their skin stays within tones that deer and goats are found with, like shades of grey, beige, and orange.Thrynn wear flowing natural linen, leather, and woven vines. Their clothing are often decorated with pressed flowers and forest sigils.

Veythalen
The Veythali are the main society of Thrynn, located in the heart of Terenos. They are generally leaner and more rangy than their cousins who drifted off to join the orcs in the deserts and badlands. Many display faint dapple-like patterns along their shoulders, backs, and thighs that helped them camouflage in the forests.Cindralith
The Cindralithians broke away from the Veythali to join the Grakthûl orcs, believing it to be a strategic move to offer more protection for both Thrynn and the Orcish clans if the Veythali split among them. They changed in appearance with their surroundings and typically come in shades of ashen beige, gray, and rusty colors. Their antlers are taller and blackened at the tips, often intentionally charred in fire-forged rituals.Umbravayn
The Umbravayni, much like the Cindralithians, sought kinship with the Kharvashûn in the deserts of Calethis. They followed with the intent of aiding the Vorynthali in their shared exile from Sylvara and inevitably stayed to call Calethis their new home. Like the Cindralithians, the Umbravayni's appearance changed with the new climate over time, and now come in muted, dusky colors as well as brown and grey. Their antlers are darker in color and are polished until they gleam like obsidian.

The Somnari are mortals forever marked by the great devourer of sleep and thought, Somnavor. Their existence is caught between reality and nightmare and their bodies have been permanently altered by the void. Among other races, they're feared and distrusted.Within their own circles, the Somnari embrace their curse as a form of freedom. Their culture teaches that to be touched by the void is to walk the shadows and see the truths for what they really are that others may not.Despite their embrace of their curse, they exile those who embrace the void and Somnavor, himself, as they have struggled to overcome his corruption and are fighting him alongside the realm of reality.

Somnari share mortal silhouettes, but are permanently altered by their corruption. Their skin tones appear unnatural—shades of blue, pink, and purple—and shimmer faintly as though veiled in smoke.Their eyes are commonly pupil-less and glow faintly in shades of violet, silver, or black. Horns are a common feature, but bear no semblance to other Somnari's more than half the time.Hair colors range from dull mortal shades to white, black, and eerie void-like tones (indigo, violet, crimson, etc).Their clothes lean toward layered leathers, veils, and fabrics in darker hues and are often decorated with protective runes.

The Chalythian live alongside the orcs in Norrvain and Calethis. They protect the dreams of those around them to improve sleep and, because they never sleep themselves, are often referred to as 'nightwatchers'. Their culture is communal and deeply oral as they pass down prophecies and read omens to their peers. Their appearance leans toward pale violet and silver-grey tones.Druvash
The Druvashi are outcasted nomads who isolated themselves after cutting ties with Somnavor. They keep a close eye on the other faction's settlements and report back to the orcs in case of an attack. Their appearance is stark, with pale skin and jagged horns. Their eyes glow of crimson and violet.

Velari are skybound individuals with fragile forms. They have lightweight bones, allowing them to thrive in deep canyons. Their cities cling to cliffs or spiral upward in towers of resin.Velari culture is communal and aerial, and their societies resemble great hives where every member contributes to the whole. Outsiders often describe them as delicate despite their courage and fierce protectiveness of their kin.Velari cultures value artistry, harmony, and song. When threatened, however, they utilize their power in numbers to overwhelm their enemies.

Velari stand between five and eight feet with slender and hollow-boned frames. Their skin tones aren't limited to a specific shade, and their skin is often banded or speckled in mothlike patterns.Membranous wings sprout from their back, patterned with markings that are unique to each individual. Their large eyes glimmer in hues of silver, amber, or pale blue. Their hair is often feathery with a wide range of colors to match their skin tone.Velari attire is practical and ceremonial with layered silks, resin-woven armor, and jewelry made from polished chitlin or crystal. Many decorate their wings with paint and charms, like pressed flowers.

The Aurelith originated in Sylvara, but left to stay with the thrynn in Terenos after increased tensions following the orc exile. They are soft spoken naturalists who tend to "spore gardens" where fungi and plants cultivate into living structures. Their patterns are closer to muted greens, creams, browns, as well as spring colors.Nharaxis
The Nharaxi Velari live along the desert cliffs and within salt-crystal canyons of Calethis. Their wings are thinner and more translucent than the Aurelithian Velari, and are more often warmer shades like gold, red, as well as sandy tones. At night, their wings glow faintly under the moon. They use silk woven stronger than rope (and often dyed) to hang dwellings between cliff faces.

Character Summary

Lorien is a kind and understanding man. He finds that patience is a true strength and that tolerance is needed to lead a kingdom without mistreating his people. He finds his father's methods disgraceful and tyrannical, and has since vowed to his brother that he will not lead with the iron fist Morwen has sworn by. Despite his upbringing, Lorien is more open to conversation with other factions and perceives them as living, sentient beings with families. His rebellion against his father and the traditional way of life his people adopt is less of a phase and more of an evolution between generations. Despite his tolerance for many different backgrounds and beings, he is extremely intolerant of his father's opinions and will fight against him every step of the way.

Seraphyne

Seraphyne is the oldest of the four Old Gods, being the very first to take a breath and see the vast emptiness of the universe around her. She is the personification of fire and the mother of all life, itself.

Nerathis

Nerathis is the youngest of the Old Gods, being the last to draw breath. She is the personification of water and currently rules over the Underworld.

Kaelion

Kaelion is the oldest son and the second to draw breath in the vast universe. He is the personification of air and change. Many mortals give him credit for evolution and the changing of seasons.

Oriveth

Oriveth was the third to draw breath and had been the first to suggest building life with his siblings. He is the personification of time and cycles, and is the reason for the day and weather cycle.
